Ventilate Dev Blog : Final Phase Excitement!
We’re thrilled to share our progress as we approach the final stages of our game development. Here’s a rundown of what we’ve been up to:
Team Meeting Highlights
In our latest team meeting, we discussed several key items as we near the end of the game development. We’re currently in the final phase of debugging, implementing models, and adding the finishing touches to shading and animations for our characters.
Animation Enhancements
We’re upping the complexity of some animations, especially for the attacking models. One standout is the spinning robot, which rotates and spins as it attacks the main player. This animation is coming along nicely, and we’re now rendering it for final implementation.
Interestingly, we discovered a bug where one of the attacking robots would shudder when hitting walls. After some investigation, we found that the wrong animation function was called—a simple fix, but it took a bit of teamwork to identify the issue.
Shader and Map Improvements
We’ve been refining the buildings in front of the camera shader, particularly the rooftops, to ensure the shadows look just right. Overall, the maps are progressing well, and we’re excited about the level we’re currently working on, which features the big boss at the end.
Cutscene and Sound Effects
We’re also working on a large tank cutscene. One team member is dedicated to perfecting this, especially the smoke effects, to ensure the tank remains visible as it moves through the smoke.
Using FMOD, we’ve been fine-tuning sound effects and adding new ones. It’s amazing how small sounds, like clicks and knocks, add depth to the game. We’re making sure these details are just right.
Bug Fixes and Final Touches
We’ve been squashing bugs, including some pesky bad guys walking off the screen. Testing the final levels and animations for all characters is ongoing, and we’ve included several videos to showcase our progress.
Countdown to Release
We’re on the final countdown for code implementation and bug fixes. Fingers crossed, you’ll see the game live at GamerFest in October! If you’re attending, drop by to say hello and play the game. Who knows what surprises await at the show?
Localization Plans
Once we have a final build, we’ll start working on translations and localizations. Our first localization might be into Irish, as we’re an Irish game company and passionate about promoting our language. After that, we’ll likely tackle French, German, possibly Polish, and hopefully Japanese, though that will be a new challenge for our team.
